West Richland named one of the safest cities in Washington (again!)

West Richland has been named one of the safest cities in the entire state of Washington. And this is hardly a new accolade. If our records are correct, it’s the fourth time since 2019 that West Richland has made a “safe cities” list!

The latest accolade is from SafeWise’s 9th annual Safest Cities report. SafeWise relies on FBI data for both violent and property crimes and compares those numbers to city populations to rank cities based on the number of reported crimes per 1,000 people.

West Richland ranked #8 in this new report and is the only city on the east side of the state to crack the top 10. Only two others made the top 20 (East Wenatchee and Liberty Lake).

West Richland safe city report

Safewise says West Richland’s violent crime rate has hovered between 1.0 and 1.2% the past three years, which is about one-third the state rate of 3.4%. For property crimes, West Richland has ranged between 6.7 and 13.3% the past three years, which is less than half of the state rate (31.3%).

In past years, SafeWise published a complete list of all Washington cities, which let us see where the rest of the Tri-Cities ranked. This year, they seem to only have published the top 20 cities, so we have no idea where Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland would rank. A few years ago, those three cities all ranked between 30-35 statewide in a similar SafeWise study.

If you’re moving to the Tri-Cities…

If you’re thinking about moving to the Tri-Cities, I always recommend you use the non-emergency phone number to contact the local police department, let them know what street/neighborhood you’re looking at, and ask them for detailed information about the types of calls they get in that area.

Cari McGee

My husband and I came to the Tri-Cities in 1994, and we thought it would be a temporary stop on our way to larger cities. He was a television sports anchor at the time, and we planned to go wherever the "next step up" took us. Twenty-plus years later, we're still here and we've loved every minute of it! We have two children now, and we've found the Tri-Cities area is a wonderful place to raise a family. It's a great place to do outdoorsy things -- I like to hike Badger Mountain or run along the river path. I also love reading ... by a cozy fire in the winter or a beautiful picture window in the summer (with the A/C on!). I've been a licensed Realtor since 2004. I earned my managing broker's license in 2016, which means I can run my own brokerage, or create a team of real estate agents and supervise them, which is exactly what I did when I formed the Cari McGee Real Estate Team in 2018! We have administrative and marketing personnel, as well as additional agents to serve you. I became a director of the Tri-Cities Association of Realtors Board of Directors in 2016, became Secretary/Treasurer of the organization, and was elected to Vice President in 2019.
