Hi, this is Cari McGee with Keller Williams Real Estate in the Tri-Cities area of Washington, and welcome to this week’s episode of “Ask the Realtor.” Every week, I answer questions from buyers and sellers, and pretty much everyone in between, regarding real estate.

This week’s question comes to us from Caitlin A., who asks:

“Cari, have you ever had to fire a client?”

I tried once! That’s the answer, Caitlin. I have been extraordinarily blessed in my almost 15 years of real estate practice to have had tremendous clients — wonderful people that I’ve enjoyed working with, and always thrilled to hear from and interact with.

There was one particular client who would belittle me, and berate me, and generally treated me as if I didn’t really know what I was doing, despite the fact that I know that I did. It was just a bad situation, and for various reasons, I did not fire him. I should have, and I realized it later that I should have, because I didn’t deserve to be treated the way he had treated me.

I remember when the sale closed, and I was paid the commission for the sale of the home that he purchased, I remember wanting to donate that money because I just … I didn’t like having it because I had let myself down, and that’s what that money represented to me. It was representing of a time when I had not listened to myself and done the best thing for Cari. And that was a great lesson to learn. I’m glad that I learned it. Hopefully, I’ll never have to utilize it because generally, I have spectacular clients that I really enjoy working with.

So, I hope that answers your question, and if you have any questions for me regarding real estate, be sure to contact me via any one of the methods on the screen to follow. Have a fantastic day. Bye.

About The Author
Cari McGee

My husband and I came to the Tri-Cities in 1994, and we thought it would be a temporary stop on our way to larger cities. He was a television sports anchor at the time, and we planned to go wherever the "next step up" took us. Twenty-plus years later, we're still here and we've loved every minute of it! We have two children now, and we've found the Tri-Cities area is a wonderful place to raise a family. It's a great place to do outdoorsy things -- I like to hike Badger Mountain or run along the river path. I also love reading ... by a cozy fire in the winter or a beautiful picture window in the summer (with the A/C on!). I've been a licensed Realtor since 2004. I earned my managing broker's license in 2016, which means I can run my own brokerage, or create a team of real estate agents and supervise them, which is exactly what I did when I formed the Cari McGee Real Estate Team in 2018! We have administrative and marketing personnel, as well as additional agents to serve you. I became a director of the Tri-Cities Association of Realtors Board of Directors in 2016, became Secretary/Treasurer of the organization, and was elected to Vice President in 2019.
