Richland, Washington, Real Estate: What You Need to Know
North Richland is close to the Hanford Site. Some brand new condos and gorgeous townhomes (Siena Sky, starting at $329,900) have recently been built nearby. Across Hwy. 240 is the Horn Rapids development, a 'master-planned' golf community. It's been my experience that people either love Horn Rapids or they hate it. I think the people who chafe at the reins when exposed to Homeowners Associations and covenants tend to want to look elsewhere. There are some amazing homes going up in Horn Rapids right now by some of Richland's most prestigious builders. In central Richland you'll find the 'alphabet' houses, which the government built in the 40's to house the Manhattan Project workers. Located nearby, there are Richland ranchers, 1200 square feet, 3 bedroom, 1 bath homes built in the mid to late '40's. I love how, when those houses were built, 1 bathroom was all you could want. I like contrasting it with new construction today, with one-half baths built specifically for the convenience of any guests you may invite to your home! South Richland, beyond where the Yakima and Columbia Rivers meet, has newer homes and communities. Sundance Ridge, Westcliffe, Meadow Hills, The Plateau, and Cherrywood Estates are just some of the newer subdivisions in this part of Richland. There were so many new people, a new elementary school, White Bluffs, was built to handle the increase in the population of kids under 12. The area has recently seen the addition of some commercial ventures, such as Keene Village (I recommend the Chicken Enchilada soup at Queensgate Cafe, served on Thursdays ... soooo good!), a Wal-Mart Supercenter, a Home Depot and a Target, too. Richland, WA, has something for everyone. If it's where you decide to settle down, enjoy it. It's a great city, from north to south!
