Services for First-Time Home Buyers

Owning a home is becoming a reality for more Americans than ever before. In 2000, the U.S. homeownership rate was 67.7%, the highest ever. In today's economy, many Tri-Citians are discovering that they can own a home for about the same monthly cost as renting a nice apartment!

As a first-time home buyer, you'll have special needs. You'll have more questions and need more time and guidance to go through the process of buying a home. I know that, and I'm glad to help! My husband and I had a wonderful real estate agent when we bought our first home, and I'm ready to give you the same great service I remember getting back then.

You'll also have special options and opportunities. There are many financing assistance options available only to first-time home buyers, and as your agent, I'm prepared to help you find what's best for your situation.

How Do I Know if I'm Ready to Buy a Home?

It's an intimidating question, but if you answer "yes" to these questions, you're probably ready:

  • Do I have a steady source of income (usually a job)? Have I been employed on a regular basis for the last 2-3 years? Is my current income reliable?
  • Do I have a good record of paying my bills?
  • Do I have few outstanding long-term debts, like car payments?
  • Do I have money available for a down payment?
  • Do I have the ability to pay a mortgage every month, plus additional costs?

How Do I Get Started?

I encourage clients to do the same thing whether it's a first-time home purchase or not: Get pre-qualified for a home loan. Your bank (or another financial institution) can help you determine what you can realistically afford for a down payment and your monthly mortgage payments.

Don't know where to go to get-prequalified? Contact me and I'll be glad to help you go in the right direction.

If you're like me, the bank may say you qualify for "more" home than you thought you could afford. Use your own judgment -- you know the ups and downs of your own finances better than anyone.

Once you have a budget in mind, it's time to start searching for your perfect home. That's where I come in. Contact me today and I'll help you find just what you're looking for!

"My husband and I moved from Oregon in late 2005. We had only one day to see as many houses as possible and hope that one was what we needed. When we arrived and met with Cari, she had a full list of about 15 houses to look at. We found the one that was what we were looking for. She helped us throughout the process, faxing paperwork back and forth between here and Oregon and provided a sounding board when things didn't seem like they were going to work out. Luckily, they did and it was Cari's professionalism and caring attitude that got us through. We truly felt like we were the only clients she had. We highly recommend her to anyone that is going through the buying or selling process."
